On the back of the BBC New Wales story regarding Huw Edwards’ statement that more needs to be done to "champion" Welsh chapels and their contribution to cultural and historical life, ENTRUST are pleased to confirm that since the inception of the Landfill Communities Fund in 1996:
• 51 projects have been registered to maintain, restore or refresh chapels in Wales
• This has amounted to LCF funding of £700,000 which has supported the delivery of projects totalling £3.6m
The LCF runs across the UK and, inclusive of Wales, a total of 268 chapel projects have been registered supported by £6m of LCF contributions.
Christopher Welford, ENTRUST Chief Executive said: “We’re pleased to see that the historical and cultural importance of chapels has been recognised. These buildings play an important role in local communities and have been a significant beneficiary of LCF funding since its inception in 1996.
