Waresley Cricket Club

The project is to replace the existing base including groundworks, add new matting and to reset the existing poles and structure into new footings. It will also add new skirting and shielding to the existing netting to provide additional safety from cricket balls. The existing practice nets are much used and have become dangerous through having an uneven base, and the structure itself is no longer set solidly enough in the ground. The need for the practice facility is clear given the amount of use it gets by junior and adult sections of the club, but particularly in school holiday periods by youngsters and on colts night (weekly) training sessions.

There are no playing fields or other leisure facilities available for children or the population in general in the village and other local villages have limited local resources. Also, very little (or no) Cricket is played in local schools. Waresley Cricket Club is committed to provide a safe open space for leisure in the village, open to all and to encourage the growth of Cricket in the area – an active, healthy, social outdoor activity. We are expanding our female teams (at all age groups) and improved facilities will aid this too. A number of youngsters in the area go to schools a long way away (as well as adults who work away) and do not have the opportunity to socialise and integrate into the local community. This facility helps people to get together and fosters a better community spirit.
