Stanway Silver Witch Green: Pathway to Children’s Playground, Stanway Parish Council, Colchester

This project is to refurbish the pathway to the Stanway Silver Witch Green playground.

The current pathway to the children’s playground, on the Silver Witch Green public playing field, is impassable for parents, children, pushchairs and wheelchairs due to flooding in wet weather. Stanway Parish Council own this public playground and are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep. Contractors have been invited to quote for the refurbishment of this important pathway to restore and increase accessibility to a very popular playground in the Parish. The refurbishment will include improved drainage.

Many residents have brought to the attention of the Parish Council the difficulties they have encountered whilst taking their children to the playground on Silver Witch Green after periods of rain, due to the flooding of the access pathway. On investigation by contractors the recommendation has been to improve the drainage and use a surface covering that will prevent the water from causing flooding issues. The playground is very popular with the residents for their children to play on the play equipment. Being situated on a public green close to two primary schools, one special needs school and a secondary school, it sees a lot of use after school and at weekends. The proposed work will increase the accessibility for all.
