Solar Panels, Hucclecote Community Association CIO, Glos

This is a project to install solar panels on Hucclecote Community Centre to reduce the carbon footprint of the building, decrease energy costs, and provide greater financial stability for the organisation going forward.

The centre is situated in the heart of Hucclecote which has a population of over 10,000 people (over 8,000 within the City of Gloucester and a further 2,700 in the adjoining parish outside of the City). It is a thriving hub for every aspect of community life from cradle to grave. The cost of electricity to run the centre, which includes function rooms, a café, a lounge/bar and outdoor areas with a children’s trim-trail, is around £7,800 per annum. The installation of solar panels will reduce this to around £3,600 per annum, thus putting the Community Association and the centre on a solid foundation for financial sustainability into the future.
