Sheffield Wildlife Trust – Greno Woods

Greno Woods is a stunning and wildlife rich large woodland in the North of Sheffield. Most of the wood is scheduled ancient woodland that has been extensively planted with conifers, with significant areas of semi-natural ancient woodland and heathland within it. The project will fence the heathland area to enable sustainable conservation grazing. This will support management of the heath which is currently of uniform age structure and is encroached by birch and bracken. It will open up the woodland edge and undertake ride management works for a number of priority species including shining guest ant, nightjar and spotted flycatcher. It will install bird boxes (the wood has few mature trees due to past management practices) and will create a small pond.
