Science Pioneering the Paralympic Games – Dr Ludwig Guttmann, Doctor, Psychologist, Engineer

Development of a heritage centre with the local community that celebrates the extraordinary achievements of Dr Guttmann, inspiring local facility users and visitors.
Sir Ludwig Guttmann – pioneer of the Paralympic games; a medical doctor, psychologist and engineer. His story is regional, national and international;it shows how science and an individual’s persistence, ingenuity and insight can support and break down attitudes to disability.

Project Outcomes
Local people will have contributed to the development of the heritage centre and learnt about the heritage including Dr Guttmann’s medical philosophy.
Local Schools will have learnt about the international scientific importance of Dr Guttmann’s work.
Local collections and archives will have become accessible and interpreted for the first time.
