Saline Lagoon Restoration at WWT National Wetland Centre Wales

Restoration of three saline lagoons on the National Wetland Centre Wales nature reserve. A new pump will be installed to provide a regulated freshwater supply, retaining banks will be replaced and the lagoons will be desilted. A programme of enhanced habitat management and replanting will develop the lagoons over a two year period. The project will contribute to national BAP objectives to maintain and restore saline lagoon habitat. The lagoons support communities of specialist flora and invertebrate fauna, rarely found elsewhere, and populations of at least seven BAP priority birds species. The lagoons are part of the largest saltmarsh area in Wales.
