Paths for Pioneers

The main aim of the project is to improve the mosaic habitat of Swift’s Hill nature reserve, for the benefit of numerous species which are dependent on this site.

The works to be completed include the replacement of fencing and the creation of handling facilities to ensure that livestock management allows the site to flourish. Native breed cattle will be used to improve the mosaic of grass and scrub habitats for the benefit of butterflies and other species. Hedges will be scalloped to increase foraging and shelter for invertebrates.

The improved fencing, the replacement of two stiles with gates, and the replacement of worn steps will improve the experience for visitors together with updates to the onsite signage. Volunteer opportunities will also be provided.
