Making A Beeline To Carmel’s Meadows

To increase the population of the Shrill Carder Bee, one of the UK’s rarest bumblebees, by undertaking restoration of its primary habitat: wildlife-rich grasslands. The project will focus on 40ha of UKBAP grassland habitats at Carmel NNR; (i) restoring semi-improved grasslands; (ii) establishing appropriate grazing; and (iii) extending the habitat available by 10ha and reducing fragmentation through the acquisition of two parcels of land adjacent to the existing reserve, enabling the creation larger areas of bee-friendly habitat.
