Projects / Greenabella Marsh Seal Viewing Area.

Greenabella Marsh Seal Viewing Area.

The project will involve the erection of a seal hide on the sea wall at Greenabella Marsh to allow public viewing of seals on Seals Sands, 150m away. Without a suitable hide this would not be possible as the area is otherwise fairly exposed. Access from a small visitor car park at the nearby Huntsman Pigments site leads through a wetland area across an existing boardwalk and track straight to the seal hide, a walk of some 10 minutes. The area has an existing permissive access agreement with the landowner. A variety of guided groups use the site regularly, including those led by Natural England, Hartlepool Borough Council, Teesmouth Bird Club and the Teesmouth Field Centre. This is mainly adult visitors but also occasionally school groups.
