Projects / Greatham Creek Footpath and Seal Viewing Area

Greatham Creek Footpath and Seal Viewing Area

The project will provide a safe visitor access to a seal viewing area that avoids undesirable seal disturbance. The footpath will lead from an existing car park to the viewing area and will be fenced along its boundary to separate users from cattle which graze in the adjacent field. The scheme will be designed and built to allow disabled access.
Interpretation boards will be placed at the viewing area, in the car park and on the footpath route to the viewing area. As well as being used by visitors, the hide will be used by RSPB and the Teesmouth Field Centre for educational visits. The project is supported by the 2 adjacent local authorities who wish to connect people with their local environment. The seal viewing area will be publicised by the RSPB at their nearby Saltholme Nature Reserve.
