Projects / Fladbury Meadows barn

Fladbury Meadows barn

Construct an agricultural barn for storage and maintenance of vehicles, machinery and equipment essential for the ongoing management and enhancement of VLHT’s floodplain grassland assets. VLHT have several grassland sites, purchased through LCF grants to manage as traditional meadows, enhancing the grassland flora where appropriate to bring them back to wildflower meadows. Wildflower meadows have been lost across Britain (estimated at 97% loss since the 1930s) so every one of these sites are of national importance but will only remain so with appropriate management. Management of these grasslands requires equipment including tractors and mowers which at present our are stored at a location some distance from the meadows. We plan to build an agricultural barn and access track in a location at the heart of our meadows, with facilities necessary to maintain the vehicles. The barn will include welfare facilities essential for staff and volunteers working on the sites. This will make the management of our sites far more efficient and will ensure that our meadows continue to improve, providing vital habitat for a rich diversity of flora and fauna. The Project will take place at one site (Tony’s Meadow) but several of our sites will benefit (see attached map).
Planning permission has been granted for the barn.
