Projects / Creation of Petanque Terrain

Creation of Petanque Terrain

The project will create a permanent playing surface for petanque (officially called a ‘terrain’). A terrain comprises a level surface made up of foundation material and a top layer of gravel with surrounds to contain the area.

Petanque is the fastest growing sport in the UK and is an activity that is open to all regardless of age, race or disability. Creating a petanque section within the cricket club will help enhance its position in the community and expand the diversity of those using the facilities on a regular basis. It is believed it will strengthen the club and lead to a greater use of the new pavilion (currently in development).

As the sport has a low entry level in terms of ability and cost, it is known that it attracts people living alone and the club is currently in discussion with Calderdale Council and ‘ Sporting Memories’ regarding financial and organisational assistance for developing the facility and its future use.
