Coleraine Guide Hall Lighting and Heating Renovation

Upgrade our heating system and lighting and install water heaters. This will have the overall effect
of reducing our carbon footprint, reducing overall costs and make the facility more hygienic by the
installation of heaters to provide hot water on demand.
Our plans are to:
1. Upgrade the old heating system with ceiling-mounted panel heaters and eco-heaters.
2. Replace fluorescent lights with LED lighting.
3. Install water heaters in the kitchen and toilets.
Coleraine Guide Hall has provided a space, for over 50 years, for girl guiding as well as many other local groups.
The current heating and lighting system is over 25 years old. The heaters are inefficient and many are broken. The majority of the lighting consist of very old fluorescent lighting. There is only cold water available in the kitchen and toilets which means we have to use a kettle and boiler go have any hot water.
Having more efficient heating before and during usage of the building will be of overall benefit to its
structure and will prevent any potential issues of damp or decay.
Additionally, we are currently considering the possibility of inserting Swift bricks and/or boxes to the
outside of the building. This would be funded through savings brought by the new heating system.
We are setting up discussions with a local group who can facilitate this for us and it will be done as a
project with the Guides and Brownies so that they can learn more about this endangered species of
bird. This work will have a positive effect on the natural environment around our building and will
help to protect the birds. It will also provide good publicity for the Guide Hall. However, this is a
medium- to longer-term project and will not be completed during Q1 or Q2.
