Box Parish Council – Tennis Courts

There are two tennis courts on the Recreation ground in Box which are in desperate need of
resurfacing. The current surface has been in place for about 20 years and is no longer fit for
purpose. It is breaking up and becoming dangerous for use by tennis players, netball
players and other users and desperately needs resurfacing if it is to remain a viable usable
amenity in the parish.
The fund-raising activities themselves are helping to bring a wide range of people from the
village together, under a common cause. The ideas and enthusiasm are already making
bonds between people and families. When the courts are re-surfaced and being used again,
this will also help to connect the community together even more, through the many clubs
and users of them into the future. It is hoped that it will result in the reformation of the
mothballed Box Tennis Group to bring tennis players together for health and wellbeing.
Parishioners who drive to other tennis clubs further away (Biddestone, Lansdown,
Alice Park) at present will be able to walk to use these courts. Children and adults
from the village can access them and those from other areas such as Rudloe and
Ashley can catch the bus to use these facilities.
