Ancient Woodland, Camel – Restoration

The aim of the project is to restore woodland and management (at Carmel National Nature Reserve) to 20 hectares of internationally significant ancient semi-natural woodlands which have been neglected since at least the 1960s. Woodland management will be undertaken through community participation and a capital works programme that will: help to restore the woodlands to their former glory; help increase the return of rare and native spieces; and, most importantly, enable the local community to take pride in this unique site by learning about the fasinating historical and archeological significance of the area and its key role in the industrial revolution. Three interpretation panels will be erected on site.
