What is EB Accreditation?
EB Accreditation was introduced by ENTRUST in 2007, with the aim of providing ENTRUST with the ability to carry out systems-based reviews of Environmental Bodies (EBs). Those EBs which reach an appropriate level may be granted ‘Accredited’ status and be subject to a lighter regulatory touch.
The EB Accreditation process helps EBs comply with the Regulations and ensure that organisations adopt a best practice framework within which to operate. This process provides EBs with the flexibility to design and operate governance processes and controls which are appropriate for their own organisation in order to facilitate their compliance with the Regulations.
What is involved?
The Accreditation process involves the detailed review of how an organisation is set up and the systems and procedures in place. The review is performed by an ENTRUST Accreditation Inspection and is broken down into four main modules as follows:
• Governance and Management
• LCF Funding Arrangements
• Project Compliance
• EB Systems & Operations
What are the benefits?
ENTRUST continues to develop and build upon the benefits that EB Accreditation provides.
Benefits of Accreditation are:
• Lighter regulatory touch (once per annum compliance review)
• Self-registration of projects
• Abbreviated project registration forms – this means the information you are required to enter when self-registering a project is reduced
• Landfill Operators and other EBs donate with an increased level of confidence and knowledge that the organisation is well run and properly structured
• Allow ENTRUST to audit the performance of the LCF with the knowledge that funds are managed by a robust and well controlled organisation
• An intangible benefit is the provision of a free business ‘health check’ by a finance professional, including recommendations and advice on Regulations, ENTRUST Guidance and Best Practice
